Navigating CHANGE

Updated: Nov 30, 2021

Change can be like a sailboat in the water when its captain decides or recognizes the need to go in a new direction.

A sailboat in the water starts to go in a desired direction and it picks up momentum over time. A moving boat in the water is impossible to stop on a dime. If it did it would most likely capsize and or throw you overboard.

So the Captain must slow the boat down, a make a controllable turn, and slowly pick speed to begin the new course.

There is no straight line in change. To change you have to turn and head in the direction of the desired goal all while constantly dealing with what the water and wind throws at you.

The open water is like life. There are so many varying conditions that are out of your control. You can have rough water with giant waves one moment and then the winds die down and you are on calm water. Again...Like life. The open waters are never the same. Unpredictable...Like life.

Here are some steps to help make desired change possible and help you navigate the waters of life.
  • Identify the new destination

  • Begin to slow the boat down but don’t stop

  • Plot a new course, knowing as many of the conditions you may face

  • Get others on board. Don’t sail alone

  • Communicate your goal and let others help…. This is crucial

  • Gradually make the turn and pick up speed, never going to fast so to loose control

  • Make sure you have a life vest and it’s not a bad idea to bring Dramamine.

  • Try and enjoy the journey, and most importantly enjoy the destination.

Change is possible. It is up to you.
