Because
By: Coach Hughes
Because…is too often an excuse!
In my experience, both personally and while coaching others, I’ve noticed that many of us hesitate to try new things or set goals. When I ask myself or others why, the answers I hear too often is… "BECAUSE":
- "BECAUSE I don’t have enough money."
- "BECAUSE I’m not tall enough."
- "BECAUSE I’m not smart enough."
- "BECAUSE no one trained me."
- "BECAUSE I have never done it before."
- "BECAUSE I'm the middle child." (This one often makes me chuckle!)
- "BECAUSE, BECAUSE, BECAUSE."
These "BECAUSE" excuses seem endless, and I have come to realize they often stem from underlying fears—fear of failure, embarrassment, being judged, or not fitting in, paralyzing us, holding us back, and preventing us from achieving our growth and goals.
Probably the most disheartening and destructive BECAUSE I hear is, "Because someone else told me...!" This BECAUSE disregards our abilities or drive and, worse still, allows the opinions of others to dictate our self-worth, ultimately preventing us from accomplishing our goals and realizing our full potential.
“How will we ever know what we are capable of if we let others’ opinions keep us from stepping outside our comfort zones and quitting before we even start? By doing so, we miss out on opportunities to discover what we are truly capable of achieving.”
Instead of internalizing the negativity and doubts that often cloud our ambitions, let’s rather challenge those limiting "because" statements and embrace the potential that comes with trying something new. We might just be astonished by what we CAN accomplish. The goals we CAN reach, and the person we CAN be.
Let's strive to be the best version of ourselves, to — BeBestYou — BECAUSE the only real limits are those we impose on ourselves or allow others to impose on us. Breaking free from these constraints can open a world of possibilities, enabling us to thrive and flourish in ways we never imagined.
-" BECAUSE I can."
- "BECAUSE I will."
- "BECAUSE I Matter."
